S’long, NASCAR

Ladies and Gentlemen, start your engines! Yes, it’s back to motorsport after a long, dull three month off-season, and 2010 starts with a bang – one of the biggest NASCAR events of the whole year, the Daytona 500, otherwise known as “the Great American Race”. Would reigning champion Jimmie Johnson pick up his winning habit?

Unfortunately for UK viewers, this would be the only live coverage of NASCAR available in the country this year – Sky Sports has decided to drop it and show just a tape-delayed 45 minute clips package a day later from here on, which means there’s no chance to write up a race report of any merit. So unless the TV coverage situation changes, there will just be the briefest of summaries and the results here after today’s farewell blog piece on the Daytona 500.

It’s a shame, as I’ve come to really enjoy the very different culture and feel of NASCAR over the past couple of years, but no way around it.

Of course, there will be Formula 1 and MotoGP coming along next month; and hopefully Indy Cars, although that’s subject to whatever Sky Sports are doing as well. We’ll see.
